Activities for Kids Nutrition

It is very important that our kids have a healthy nutrition. We all know that unhealthy food and habits are an incredible source of diseases. Also, we all know how much kids enjoy eating junk foods and how hard it is for us to convince them to eat healthy food. In this article we are going to present you some activities for kids nutrition that will definitely help you and your kids. You can start by introducing your children to the healthy foods by using some arts and crafts activities for kids nutrition. For instance, you can play paper plate meals by asking your kids to find pictures of certain foods in magazines. Then you ask them to separate the foods in different categories, such as breakfast, lunch and dinner and then glue them on paper plates. Another activity that your children will enjoy is the pizza collage. For this you need a few more materials, such as round pieces of tag board, glue, tempera paint, yarn scraps, colored felt, and brown scraps of paper. Now you can let the children choose their vegetables and other ingredients they want on their pizza, by using the materials above mentioned. You will all have fun and at the same time your kids will learn important things about their meals.

There are also other activities for kids nutrition that actually involve food and allows children to play and learn. The pudding paint is a great activity and it makes children have fun while appreciating the healthy meal. You can prepare the pudding ahead of time or even let the kids do it if it is an instant recipe. When the pudding is ready let the kids finger it and play with it. Encourage them to paint with it on a plastic lined paper or waxed paper. They will have a lot of fun and you will not have to worry about cleaning up because this time the paint is edible. Another great activity involving food is making the salt clay doll. You can bake this doll by mixing a cup and a half of salt, 4 cups of flour and water. You knead the dough well and then give it any shape you want. After you bake it and cool it you can have fun with it trying to paint and glue stuff on it.

The greatest activities for kids nutrition are always the food games. One of the most common food game is called “separating solids”. Mix beans, salt and rice in a cup and then ask your kids to separate them in three different bowls by using a strainer and a colander. When they are done, ask them if they can think of any other way to do it. A great way to teach your kids about good foods and healthy nutrition is by playing “Fishing for good foods”. Let your kids cut pictures from magazines from five basic foods. Then, ask the kids to glue the pictures on fish shaped forms. You can slip a paper clip on the front of each fish and make a fishing pole, tying a magnet at the end of the string. Now the children have to catch the fish and decide which group of food they belong to. One of the best food games is the vegetables game. We all know that children are not too fond of vegetables and that is why we have to make them enjoy playing with them first. While doing this we can also teach kids many interesting and important things about vegetables. Give your kid a vegetable and then try to ask him/her to tell you as many things he/she knows about this vegetable. Try to make them compare it with other vegetables, make them come up with different way in which this veggie can be cooked and make sure they know how healthy this veggie is and why.
