Healthy nutrition means a lot of energy for the body and that is why it is extremely important in order for our body to be able to perform its daily activities. Also, while exercising we are using a lot of energy and if we have a good nutrition we will be able to stay in shape too. However, it is quite evident that the level of nutrition required by a common person should not be the same as one of an athlete. It is important to understand the difference between the level of exercising of a common individual in comparison with an athlete who may exercise every day and even compete once or twice a week. The dietary requirements of both individuals are very similar, but also very different. Thus it is quite essential to understand why is nutrition important when exercise at different levels. The body of the average individual will be satisfied with the basic nutrients taken from the daily food. However, the athlete may require some additional items that would be of no benefit to the average person.
The common people who do not excessively exercise will be satisfied with the so called macro nutrients, such as protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, the professional athlete may require other nutrients too in order to have the energy for a daily training. The important thing is that you can distinguish where your place is between these two examples and identify which type of nutrition is best for you. It is important that each individual understands his/her own nutritional needs and act accordingly. Before you are able to establish what type of exercising and at what level is best for you, you have to be able to establish what nutrition is intended to do. The answer to why is nutrition important when exercise, is because it is the fuel provider for energy. You have to pay attention at your body’s requirements that you have to meet while establishing your diet. The first thing you have to concentrate on is staying healthy.
All the organs in your body need to operate in harmony so that your body can have the best performance. The organs (heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, the endocrine system etc.) function at their best when they receive the nutrients that specifically relate to each of them. When this happens, our bodies move to the next level of their performance, namely the creation of energy. This is one of the body’s main functions and in order to achieve this function the entire system will go to extraordinary lengths in order to make sure that enough energy is created. In this case, if the food components do not supply the needs, the body will use its own resources thus destroying the muscle mass using its amino acids in order to produce energy. Of course, this is the ultimate place where the body will seek for energy fuel, as the amount required is usually provided by fat, carbohydrates and even protein. Now that we understand why is nutrition important when exercise as far as producing energy is concerned, we will focus on the aspect of growth and repair. Throughout our daily activity we burn out thousands of cells that need to be replenished. In order to do this our body requires nutrients, especially protein. When exercising more tissue is broken and it needs to be fully replenished for the next exercising session, otherwise you will not have the energy to perform your usual program. However, there are certain stages that need to be taken into consideration, such as breakdown, recovery and growth.
